Roughly 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Officers report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.
The substance had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then located many other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say preliminary tests show the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; officials are presently not cognizant of any injuries in connection with the event," they commented.
City officials said they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
A senior official stated the incident rendered him stunned and needed to be solved quickly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he posted on social media, recalling the murder of nine people by a shooter aiming at people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
