The highly-awaited Season 2 of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel arrives on Prime Video this week, and fan speculation has been intense.
The first season introduces a large cast of characters living within Hell and Heaven, sets them at odds accompanied by musical numbers about their clashes, and builds tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that drive fan obsession.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 vary widely, but certain threads emerge over and over: Will a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Might we learn more about the binding agreement constraining Alastor the Radio Demon? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't make the show with fan service specifically in mind," the showrunner commented recently. "But I believe that me being a fan of my own show implies there's a lot of it just naturally. I also am eager for these things, and I hope some of these things to occur, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She says her big-picture plan is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That might mean viewers have to be patient for some of the major resolutions — but they may be surprised at how fast season 2 progresses, and how many of what they're anticipating unfolds now.
"I believe people are going to get a lot out of it," she adds. "We get some firsts. I think we get some incredible disclosures, some really cool origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience additional musical numbers from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
She's certainly aware of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — particularly in the format of audience prediction charts.
"I've come across a couple people create a prediction grid about the new season," she says. "Obviously I can't post it, but I've already completed some of them, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 launches on the streaming service on Oct. 29.
