It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

In the teaser reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her shirt.

It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.
