The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Express Displeasure Over Sizing Changes
Vinted users have been reacting angrily following a change that caused listings displaying inaccurate size information.
The popular resale platform has revised its sizing categories for female and kids' apparel without notifying every member regarding the update.
Social Media Response
Many shoppers and sellers have taken to social media claiming that product pages now present an altered size classification compared to what was initially listed because of the remapping.
The company said the new system was more in line with comparable marketplaces.
They have suggested members to review their products and adjust the sizing manually if necessary, causing user dissatisfaction.
Measurement Approach Modifications
Before the change, the sizes had both one number and one letter, like S/8 or M/10.
The new system has a letter with a size spectrum such as S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the sizing has been recategorised - for example a size L used to be a 12 but is now a UK 16-18.
Member Experiences
One content creator, who produces content about larger sizing, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".
"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Stephanie Gallen, based in Glasgow, said garments she listed with size 14 tags were appearing on the platform as larger sizing 20-22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they will likely be quite upset," she said.
Necessary Adjustments
Another shopper, located in England, explained she became annoyed because the modification necessitated personal updates the sizing for "all her products".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, since I have chronic health issues and Vinted sales have been crucial for me since losing part of my income," she stated.
Service Background
The app has more than 100 million members, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has proved a popular alternative compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance where an unanticipated change to the app has proved unpopular: previously, the service retracted a modification concerning shipment methods due to shopper criticism.
